Maria's Hidden Tapas Bar in Palma's Old Town

By Carlos, Local Tour Guide

Tucked away in a narrow alley behind the Cathedral, Bar Es Baluard has been serving the same family recipes for three generations. Maria, the owner, still hand-makes her patatas bravas every morning. The secret? A touch of smoked paprika from her village in the mountains. Don't miss the pan con tomate – it's what we locals order every time.

Carrer de la Portella, 4, Palma

Lokalt Tips:

Go after 8 PM when the locals arrive, and always greet Maria in Mallorquí if you can!

The Beach Bar Only Locals Know About

Forget the crowded beach clubs – Chiringuito Can Pere in Cala Estancia is where we bring our families on Sundays. The owner, Pere, sources his fish directly from the fishermen who dock nearby every morning. His grilled dorada with sea salt and lemon is perfection. The best part? You can still find a table without a reservation.

Cala Estancia, near Palma Airport

Lokalt Tips:

Try the 'pescado del día' (fish of the day) and pair it with a local Mallorcan wine.

Shopping Like a Local: Markets Beyond Tourist Spots

By Miguel, Shop Owner

While tourists flock to Mercat de l'Olivar, we locals do our weekly shopping at Mercat de Pere Garau. It's smaller, friendlier, and the prices are what we actually pay. Señora Carmen at the cheese stall has been there for 40 years – she'll let you taste everything and recommend the perfect Mahón cheese for your needs.

Plaça de Pere Garau, Palma

Lokalt Tips:

Visit on Saturday mornings for the freshest produce and liveliest atmosphere.

Secret Sunset Spot Away from the Crowds

By Elena, Photographer

Everyone goes to Cap de Formentor for sunset, but we locals drive to Mirador de Na Burguesa instead. It's a short hike from the parking area, but you'll have the entire bay of Palma spread out below you, with the cathedral glowing in the golden hour. Pack some local cheese and wine – it's our favorite date spot.

Carretera de Valldemossa, km 7

Lokalt Tips:

Arrive 30 minutes before sunset and bring a light jacket – it gets breezy up there!

Café Central in Santa Catalina isn't the prettiest, but it's where half of Palma's creative community camps out with their laptops. The Wi-Fi is fast, the cortados are perfect, and owner Tomeu doesn't mind if you sit for hours. It's also where you'll overhear the best local gossip and upcoming art exhibitions.

Plaça del Progrés, 4, Santa Catalina

Lokalt Tips:

Order a 'cortado leche de avena' (oat milk cortado) – it's not on the menu but Tomeu makes the best one in the city.

Traditional Mallorcan Pastries Done Right

By Carmen, Baker's Daughter

My family has run Forn des Teatre for 60 years, and we still make our ensaïmadas the traditional way – with saïm (Mallorcan lard) and lots of patience. But here's what tourists don't know: our coca de patata on Sunday mornings is what the neighborhood queues for. It's simple, sweet, and tastes like childhood.

Carrer de Can Sanç, 11, Palma

Lokalt Tips:

Call ahead on Sundays to reserve your coca de patata – we usually sell out by noon!

Es Cruce: Authentic Charcoal-Grilled Felanitx Institution

By Oscar, Local Food Enthusiast

Hidden in the heart of Felanitx, Es Cruce is where three generations of my family have been coming for Sunday lunch. This isn't just a restaurant – it's a temple to traditional Mallorcan cooking. Everything is grilled over charcoal the old way: whole rabbits, lamb shoulders, and the most incredible sobrassada-stuffed chicken you'll ever taste. The prices haven't changed much since the 80s, and neither has the atmosphere under the grape vines.

What to expect:

Charcoal-grilled lamb with olivesTraditional rabbit dish
Grilled vegetables and local specialtiesTraditional menu

A typical meal costs around €21-25 per person for the full experience, including wine.

Felanitx, Mallorca

Lokalt Tips:

Order the 'cordero asado' (roast lamb shoulder) and share it family-style. Don't leave without trying their house wine – it's from local vineyards and costs almost nothing!
